Bowl of Peaches
Oil on Linen Panel 5 x 7 inches
This painting is on a hand-made fine linen panel.
My new favourite bowl is playing host to some peaches in this one.
I think this is the first time I've painted peaches - at least, that I can remember. The colour is fascinating.
The very darkest shadows have quite high chroma, and I used a mix of permanent magenta and burnt sienna to get them, ending up with a hue somewhere between the two.
Much of the surface of the peaches in the light is very low chroma, much lower than I thought. The hues move up as the value rises from purple - red through orange and into yellow - orange, where the highest chroma was and also the highest value.
There was something fascinating about the way the colours moved around the hue wheel as they progressed from dark to light.
I'm itching to paint peaches again so I can have another look at these fascinating colours - a new favourite subject, I think 🙂

The auction uses proxy bidding, which means you can set a Maximum Bid, and until that's reached, you're protected from being outbid. So if Bidder A places a Maximum Bid of $200 and Bidder B comes along to try and outbid A, A will be protected till B outbids A over $200.
You’ll be notified of any other bids and whether you’ve won the auction by email automatically. If you win the auction, I’ll send you an email with a link to pay by PayPal.
PLEASE NOTE: As the auction comes to a close, you’ll need to refresh the page to see the latest bids. It may look as if you’ve won when the countdown finishes, but you’ll only see the most recent bids if you refresh the page, so there may have been more bids that you’re not seeing!
