Eye Drawing Number Two
3rd February 2006

Second in the series, twenty drawings of eyes.
This eye comes from a portrait by Gian Lorenzo Bernini, a 17th century baroque artist.
The picture I copied it from comes from a book of plates called "Great Portrait Drawings and Prints", also from the Dover Art Library. If you're in the UK you can get a lot of their publications on amazon. I recommend them.
The original is one of those strange portraits where the subject is smiling. I wonder if the sitters got face-ache from portraits like that, sitting smiling for so long. Its a beautiful drawing though, and even in the eye I think you can see the open, honest quality the face has.
