Garlic and Shell – a Value Study

garlic-bowl-shell-2-small

The challenge with a study like this is getting the garlic to work as a white object, whilst still leaving a little room in the value scale for the highlights on the reflective surface of the bowl to sing out.

This method of building up values in layers of mixed black and white chalk allows very fine control of values.
