Habit Change for Artists – Leo Babauta of Zen Habits

November 27, 2014 By: Paul4 Comments

A few days ago I had the priviledge of firing a few questions at Leo Babauta of Zen Habits. For several years, Leo has been writing one of the most useful blogs on the Internet (for my money) about habit change.

In this interview, Leo talks about habit change with specific reference to artists and creators. He gives some very practical strategies for overcoming the resistance we all feel to getting started with our creative work, and for dealing with inevitable failure positively.

You can find out more about Leo’s new book on his Kickstarter page for this project. I really hope you’ll watch this video, and support his project. Buy a copy of the book. Putting Leo’s recommendations into practice will change your life, and so the world – a small piece at a time.

From Leo:

“I’m hoping that you will watch this and start putting it into action, and make the most of your limited time here on earth, because it’s a gift and we often forget that”

Leo mentions the book “The War of Art” by Steven Pressfield. Highly recommended reading for all artists and creators.

I hope you find Leo’s message as useful and inspiring as I do.

Thanks for watching,

Paul

Thank you both Paul and Leo for a very insightful and inspirational video. Not only did Leo’s video change my mood and inspire me to tidy up my environment halfway through the video, but he also made me realise that if I wanted to change my painting habits I should focus on the incremental change approach rather than letting self doubt be the dominant awareness in my mind…

Thanks Patricia. Great to hear that the video inspired you to make an immediate change! Small, incremental changes are definitely the way to go, they add up to large changes over time and make it much more likely that you’ll stick to them.

good luck with keeping your workspace tidy 🙂

Thank you Paul and Leo for this great interview. All the things Leo is saying resonated with me and happy to hear about his great book on Zen habits. I signed up for the $10 dollars a month to support Leo and to fine tune my habits. Fantastic website (zenhabits.net) to find just about anything one is struggling with.
I have shared Zen Habits website on facebook.
Some of my little Zen sayings are:
Life is like a mirror, what you project will reflect back to you.
Concentrate what you have accomplished and be proud.
Never give up on what you love doing.
Polonius: This above all: to thine own self be true.
