Self Portrait Drawing, 6th December 2005

December 6, 2005 By: Paulcomment

self portrait 6th December 2005

Second in the series – a self portrait a day until Christmas.

Drawn with a very similar approach to the last one, except I sat down for this one, much more relaxing.

Thegrid was taped to the mirror as with the last one.I pretty much ignored real tonal shapes in favour getting the elements all in the right place and the head theright shape. Shape of the head can make a huge difference to how much a portrait captures the sitter I think.

The main thing that strikes me about this one is the quality of the line, or lack of it. There’sno real confident sweeps, which work so well in portrait drawing, but I guess that will come with time.

Overall I’m happy that my portrait drawing is getting better quickly, almost from drawing to drawing.

For today’s portrait I think I’m going to concentrate on tonal shapes.
