What we’ll be doing

In order to really cement the relationship between colour and value, I’d like to do two block-in studies in this session.

They will both be fairly simple, without detail. What we’ll be looking for is accurate values and a strong start.

Both studies will be of the same subject (above), the first will be value only and the second will be colour – trying to ensure that the colours we mix are the same values as we used for the value study.

This is a hugely important part of painting flowers well, so I want to devote one entire session to it.

What you’ll need

Your value scale
