As you probably know, I have an online course teaching colour with Munsell. It’s proved very successful, has had well over 100 people through it, and has all five star reviews. As a rule, people who follow the assignments make rapid progress in their ability with colour.
For the first time, I’m about to teach this approach live in a two day workshop at my good friend Julie Douglas’s atelier in Belfast. This 2 day workshop will be on the 30th and 31st of August 2018.
This two day workshop will use Munsell to demystify colour and give you effective tools and methods to take away with you that will help you paint better.
Concentrating on colour mixing and using colour to model form, at the end of the two days:
- You will be better at judging the colours you see, having developed a greater sensitivity to colour.
- You will be able to mix any colour accurately. Seriously.
- You will be able to model form believably from light to shadow in different local colours.
- You will have a clear method for deepening your understanding of colour further.
Perhaps most importantly, you will understand much more about how colour changes from light to shadow in interior light. This knowledge will help you paint more believable form and create a more convincing feeling of light and depth in your work, no matter what your subject.
Day One:
On the first day, I will outline this innovative approach to colour and we will cover a practical and deceptively simple method of mixing that frees you from dependance on specific tube paints. You will learn to mix a perfect neutral, and we will practice matching low and high chroma colours.
We will also paint our first study in Munsell neutrals.
Day Two:
On the second day we will paint more studies that will help you learn how to model light and shadow effectively in colour.
Cost: £250. Please contact Julie Douglas via email to book (julie – at – juliedouglas.co.uk). Julie will also be able to give you local accommodation details and can be contacted for any questions.
There will be a standard materials list, no Munsell book is required since I’ll be bringing the colour chips you’ll need with me, a separate set for each attendee.
No “recipes”, no esoteric palette set ups, just a clear and practical method that will unlock colour for you.
Belfast is a wonderful city and a great place to visit. Hope to see you there!
Best wishes,
Paul
