Still Life with Peaches and Silver (Homage)
Oil on Panel 5 x 7 inches
This painting is on an acid-free hardboard panel.
Lately I've got very interested in peaches, because the colours are fascinating.
And I've been looking at a lot of paintings of peaches too, and that means Chardin.
I've been fascinated with his work for a good while, but I've only ever seen one of his paintings in the flesh, a small genre piece in the National Gallery in London. It's beautiful.
One of the things that strikes me most about some of my favourite paintings of Chardin's is the warm glow that seems to pervade the light, so this painting started out with a very warm toning of the panel - I used transparent red oxide, applied fairly thinly and then pushed around with a rough brush and paper towels to give it some texture.
That warm base colour still pervades the painting and can be felt through everything that came on top of it I think. In sections it's almost uncovered completely, and it gives the deepest shadows a warm glow.
The silver vase, well, you probably know the Chardin painting that refers to 🙂

The auction uses proxy bidding, which means you can set a Maximum Bid, and until that's reached, you're protected from being outbid. So if Bidder A places a Maximum Bid of $200 and Bidder B comes along to try and outbid A, A will be protected till B outbids A over $200.
You’ll be notified of any other bids and whether you’ve won the auction by email automatically. If you win the auction, I’ll send you an email with a link to pay by PayPal.
PLEASE NOTE: As the auction comes to a close, you’ll need to refresh the page to see the latest bids. It may look as if you’ve won when the countdown finishes, but you’ll only see the most recent bids if you refresh the page, so there may have been more bids that you’re not seeing!
