Session Three will be here on:
Moday 23rd November 2020 at 6PM UK time (1PM Eastern, 10AM Pacifc).
Just pop back here when we’re due to start.
What you’ll need
Tube paints:
In this session, we’ll be approaching a new subject in value first, so all you’ll need in the way of paints is your five-step value scale:
We’ll be working 8 by 10 inches again, so do have a panel ready to work on. We’ll be applying the initial couch and drawing out in the session so there’s no need to prepare the panel beforehand.
Brushes
As usual, the choice of brushes is largely up to you. But do make sure you have a couple of soft synthetic flats, half inch. I’m going to be demonstrating how you can suggest the form of the leaves without actually painting any detail – especially where they disappear into the shadow – in order to incorporate some more free and expressive brush work. Sometimes, less is more!
For the couch, I’d advise having linseed oil and a solvent like turps or gamsol handy, and some rags or paper towels to wipe it back with.
What we’ll be Doing
We’ll be beginning this new subject with a value study, as we did last time, but this time there will be more emphasis on more careful form modelling in value and expressive and suggestive brushwork.
