I’ve saved you a place and soon we’ll be ready to go!
What happens next
Watch your in-box, becsause sometime over the next couple of days, I’ll be sending you a an email with links to:
- A video showing you how to draw out the subject – not just the objects, but how to simplify it down to the big light and shadow shapes
- A mixing video with the main colours you’ll need to paint this
The idea is that you have your drawing-out done and colours mixed before the first live session.
And yes, you can just watch and paint along later, you will have access to recordings of the sessions, so no pressure!
The first live session will be on Monday 12th May at 6PM UK time (10AM Pacific, 1PM Eastern, check the time in your timezone here).
The second session will be on Wednesday 14th May at the same time.
I’ll email you links for these sessions nearer the time.
What you’ll need – Materials List
Surface: We’ll be painting the above subject 8 x 10 inches. I’ll be using an Ampersand Gessobord panel.
Brushes: For the first session, mostly hog bristle filberts of various sizes (small to medium) and a couple of half inch flat synthetics for edge softening and blending.
Paints:
- White (I’ll be using lead white and would recommend you do too, if you can get it and don’t mind using it. Titanium will work, but it’s slower drying so your painting may not be dry enough to paint along live in the second session. But you can still watch live and paint along later – yes, the sessions are recorded!)
- Green gold (if you don’t have this, you’ll probably be able to get away with sap green or something similar)
- Transparent red oxide
- Ultramarine blue
- Quinacridone rose or other blue-red (not crucial if you don’t have one)
- Raw umber
- Ivory black
Munsell Value scale. I highly recommend you get one of these of you can, they’re worth their weight in gold – more actually, because they’re very light 🙂 – and I’ll be giving you the values in the painting that match this particular scale as we paint. It will literally help you nail the values.
