Bowl, Teaspoon and shells – Still life Drawing Number Forty-three

Still life drawing number forty-three - Bowl, Teaspoon and Shells

Charcoal and white conte

This bowl and teaspoon obsession is getting unhealthy.

Unusually for one of these drawings, I spent longer on the composition for this one. The general idea is that the eye is led in from the shell on the bottom right, which I tried to draw crisply, back through the other shell and into the bowl to the teaspoon, the resting place being the highlight on the spoon.

The handle of the teaspoon and the shadow it casts cut across the curve formed by the objects, and are mirrored by the suggested fold in the cloth. The photo is unfortunately a little blurred, but hopefully you can see what I mean.

What do you think? Did it work? Answers on a postcard please to the usual address.
