Still life Drawing Number Nineteen – Fig

September 7, 2006 By: Paulcomment

Still life drawing number nineteen - fig

This drawing was something of an experiment. Because the fig was fairly dark, I thought it would be interesting to draw something with a dark local colour.

In practice, in daylight, it didn’t seem to make a lot of difference, the light side was still light and the dark side was still dark. But what I thought was interesting was that the light side of the fig, on the left, was almost exactly the same value (to my eye) as the grey fabric it’s sitting on, so the outline completely disappeared on that side.

I wanted to see if I could still show the form without line, even though there’s no edge to draw there.
