This painting was the last one I managed to fit in before daffodil season finished here in the Cotswolds. Just when I was warming up to them.

They were fast becoming a favourite subject, but the countryside around here will yield more subjects as the year progresses. The roses will be here soon!

I painted this over four sessions, three of which were streamed live. You can see replays of each of hte steams below, as well a shorter, 7 minute, condensed version that still gives a good idea of the stages of making the painting.

I hope you enjoy them! If you have any questions about how this painting was made, please post a comment and I’ll help if I can.

the final stage was dne well after the original set up was gone and the daffodils had died. I don’t often paint from photographs, but I had enough of the painting done to know where I was going with it, and just wanted to resolve some of the forms of the flowers more.

Best wishes,

Paul

I was privileged to watch you paint this one and several of your other Daffodil stills.
You really do have the gift, and I’m truly jealous… ;D

Seriously Joan, it’s mostly – if not all – down to practice. It takes time, yes, but stick with it and you will get there too.
