Pop back here when we’re due to start. Don’t forget to pop into the chat and say hi!
What we’ll be doing
This session is going to be all about mixing. We make the most progress when we practice a skill in a focused way and in isolation, so there will be no actual painting in this session.
Yes, it does mean “wasted” paint! But there is no other way to develop a skill than to pratise it, and practising something in isolation results in the most progress. So, instead of thinking of the paint as being wasted, think of the learning that will result from it and you’ll see that it isn’t wasted at all.
In this session, I’m going to take you through some fundamental principles of mixing and also give you some practice exercises to do in order to develop skill with mixing. I can’t emphasise this enough: Without practice, you won’t develop the skill!
What you’ll need
Just make sure you have your paints ready, a pallete and palette knife and your Munsell book and value scale. If you’re using the student book or the Centore book, a small piece of acetate or card about 1 x 2 inches to put your paint dabs on will be useful too.
