An original Oil Painting on an ampersand panel, 8 x 10 inches.
This painting really evolved from the underpainting.
I began by toning the whole panel a mid value warm neutral, and then slowly wiped out the light areas. The roses appeared gradually out of the initial abstract shapes.
The colour layers were painted with a light touch after the underpainting had dried, trying to keep something of the feeling of the flowers slowly emerging from the initial layer.
