Session two of the Spring Flowers and Still Life workshop will be here on:
Monday 22nd March
at
6PM UK time (11AM Pacific, 3PM Eastern)
What we’ll be doing
Following on from last week’s session on drawing, we’ll be developing the forms a little further by adding value.
We’ll have two values studies in this session, the narcisi above and the coalpost jug from last week.
Since we already have the jug drawn out, we’ll start with that one. We’ll be paying particular attention to first modelling the form of the jug itself, and then adding the pattern. We’ll have a separate string of values for each of these aspects of the jug.
Then we’ll move on to this new subject, focusing on keeping our values very close on the flowers. This, more than anything else, helps to capture the delicacy and diaphanous quality of the petals.
What you’ll need
Have a look at the value mixing video on the main course site here.
Have your value card ready, and that five step value scale from the video mixed and ready to go.
You’ll also need your jug drawing from last week, and another 10 x 8 panel for the value study of the narcisi.
Brush choice is less crucial for the jug, but you’ll want a selection of flat synthetics for the flowers – about half inch will be fine for most of it, since we’ll be drastically simplifying the forms!
Alos you’ll need linseed oil and a solvent for the couch.
