Monday 6th September
What we’ll be Doing
This session is all about wrapping up and completion. We’ll be looking at how far we want to resolve the secondary flowers in our composition, tidying up the leaves and and adding some detail there where it’s needed, and hoping we’ll know when to stop!
You may want to work some more on your main roses in this session as the painting changes – I may too – so please do have the same colours premixed as for the last session.
We’ll also need to mix the greens during the session, and it would probably be a good idea to have a couple of background colours mixed that match your background.
One thing I’ll be stressing in this session is making sure that we don’t deviate from our value established value and plan as we finish off select parts of the painting.
What you’ll need
Bring your painting from the previous week. If your painting isn’t sufficiently dry to work on, you may need to just watch this week and paint along later when it’s dry enough. Your second session work should be dry enough to work on by now, but if it isn’t, adding a layer of oil over it will lift the paint and likely create problems. Better safe than sorry!
Here are the colours to premix again.

Brushes: The ones you’ve been using so far.
Palette:
- Titanium white
- Flake (lead) white
- Cadmium yellow
- Bright Yellow Lake
- Yellow Ochre
- Quinacridone Rose
- Transparent red oxide
- Raw umber
- Ivory Black
- Phthalo green
Medium: Linseed oil. For subsequent oiling out of areas before working over them, I recommend using only oil in order to keep to the “fat over lean” rule.
