The first live Threads session for March 20201 will be here on:
Wednesday 10th March
at
6PM UK time (10AM Pacific, 1PM Eastern)
What we’ll be doing
We have a new subject (above) for this month.
The focus here will be edges and handling low chroma effectively. Low chroma colours can be some of the trickiest to mix well, and both these objects are shiny, so there’s a lot of subtle reflected light to deal with here too.
We’ll tackle this subject over two sessions this month, so this session will be about drawing out, colour mixing and blocking in the main shapes. We’ll handle some of the edges in session too, keeping most of them soft so that we can refine more in the second session.
What you’ll need
A panel or other drawing surface, 10 x 8 inches. I’ll be painting on an ampersand “gessobord” panel.
Brushes aren’t critical, but try to make sure you have a reasonable range. We’ll be using mostly larger brushes, half inch and above, for the block in stage.
Recommended palette:
- Titanium White
- Ivory Black
- Raw Umber
- Yellow Ochre
- Ultramarine blue
- Quinacridone rose (or other red)
We’ll be painting into a couch as usual, so linseed oil and a solvent too. I’ll be doing all this in the session.
