If you’re curious about the Threads Program watch this short video. It gives you a peek inside – and explains where the name comes from!
“Paul is one of the most generous teachers I know. He gives you information without holding back and is unfailingly supportive.
He is especially kind and encouraging and has created an atmosphere of trust in his Threads group.”
– Jean Wilkey
“I have been a Threads member since inception and the group has become essential to my painting life.
It’s not only about Paul’s incredible generosity in sharing his expertise and knowledge, but also the friendly and helpful interaction between the members.
Threads is truly invaluable and I am so grateful to be a part of it.”
– Romy Mathews
Threads is:
- Teaching of the funamental principles of painting and drawing, delivered by live streams with live discussion.
- Two workshops a month, and a monthly group meet up over Zoom, which everyone can contribute to.
- A constantly growing library of recordings of all live streams, so you can watch or download them whenever you want.
- A small, close knit and vibrant, private community on facebook.
- A group of artists of all levels, from beginners to advanced.
“I highly recommend Threads for artists who wish to acquire the tools to continue to learn and grow on their own.
Paul has enthusiasm, experience, and a skill for breaking down complex subjects such as color, value, and how to improve drawing and painting skills, into easy to digest and easy to follow steps.
I would add the bonus of group mentorship and camaraderie. It is a win/win!”

“I signed up for Threads at it’s inception as a way for me to have guidance and support in jumpstarting an art career for myself.
The access to information and help has been incredibly useful and easy to navigate. I am learning about both the professional and technical aspects of being an artist.
I also feel like I have a personal relationship with Paul, which I feel is an essential part of what makes this program so successful.”
– Sharon Krejcir
Why is it called “Threads”?
The name “Threads” represents the thread that we follow through our lives, the need to make art and try to grow and develop. In the end we’ll never be happy if we let go of it.
Each of our members is following their own thread, and the name also represents the connections we make with each other.
Painting can be a lonely pursuit, but you don’t have to walk that path on your own.
“Given that studio life is solitary, Threads Artists Community has given me a sense of companionship with other Artists who become Online Friends. The webinars are always of constructive value and interest – I just don’t feel so alone, except when I want to!”
Marilyn Bailey
“I have only been a member of Threads about a month but feel I’ve gained so much from all the video training. I’m really looking forward to all the input and comments from you and the rest of the group. I’m so thankful that I found the site and thank you for all you do.”
– Donna Monroe
“Paul is a natural teacher with a solid grounding in colour theory and a passion for imparting knowledge and understanding. So many online courses and videos skip through all the complex parts of a painting, but Paul’s video workshops take you clearly and understandably through every step.
They’re also enjoyable to watch as Paul maintains a calm and mindful approach, which I find helps me get into the right mindset for working creatively.”
– Jenny Kyng
“I don’t think you realise how much you’ve influenced my practice. Colour for me was always a mountain to scale. I am now evangelical about the Munsell System with my students and all that fear has drained away.”
– Judy Shinnick
“Threads has really upped my art. In both creating much better paintings and helping me through the tech jungle to get my art online to display and sell.”
– Karlene Ellsworth
