Just pop back here when we’re due to start.
We’ll be doing a value study of two apples, focusing on form and accurate value relationships. In the second workshop this month, we’ll be painting the same subject in colour.
You might want to make a note of your main values for next time 🙂
I’ll be working 6 x 8 inches, and the reference photos are scaled to print out that size. It’s usually better to work from a screen if youi can though, the value range is wider.
I’d advise having a 5 – step value scale mixed ahead of time, here’s a video on how to do it:

Here’s the colour photo too, just for reference. We’ll be using this one next time. Notice how much hue and chroma varioation there is within areas of the same value. That’s the main point I’ll be concentrating on in the second workshop.
So we’ll be practising values first, then practising mixing colours of different hues and chromas but similar values – and hopefully making some nice studies along the way!
