About this painting

To my amazement, these beautiful roses have lasted over a week now - I think that the rose on the right may be the same one that I painted in the previous painting

But the feel of this one is very different. The lighter background changes the way the subtle oranges of the roses appear. I repainted the background two or three times, dropping the chroma almost to grey and then bringing it back in, until I was happy with the way the colours of the roses looked against it.

The background has ended up very close to grey, although it doesn’t appear so in the painting. Again, I’m reminded of how colour is all about relationships - change one colour and it changes everything.

Painting flowers always reminds me, too, of the impermanence of life. These roses are finally turning now, and won’t last much longer. The painting will outlive them though - and possibly me too. Perhaps the act of painting flowers is an attempt to capture something ephemeral and make it permanent - at least, a little more so.

Shipping

International shipping is by UK Royal Mail International (tracked) and can take a few days to get to you. I'll let you know by email as soon as I send the painting, and give you the tracking number. I may need to allow some time for the painting to dry thoroughly before I send it to you.

If for any reason reason you’re not happy with your painting, you can return it to me within 14 days for a full refund. Buyer pays return shipping.
